What brought you to Fluid Running and how long have you been doing it?
I started Fluid Running almost 2 years ago. I was frustrated because I have a chronic, non-repairable back issue that continually has been setting me back on my fitness goals. I am currently in my mid-fifties and struggled with my weight my entire life without much passion for working out. I would tire easily and everyone including myself attributed that to my excess weight. It wasn’t until after the birth of my 3rd child (age 39) that I discovered a congenital birth defect and needed immediate open heart surgery. My heart is what caused the lack of energy and extremely low metabolism. After my surgery I had a new lease on life, I have tried every workout there is but would quickly aggravate my back. It was a constant yo-yo of exercise hard then recover. A friend told me about Fluid Running. I was skeptical but thought I would give it a try. I started with group classes and was hooked within 2 weeks. I now do the workouts mostly on my own so it is on my own schedule. I Fluid Run usually 3-4x a week coupled with core exercise and walking.
What results have you seen and how has it impacted your overall health?
My overall health has improved immensely. My cardiologist has now named me his new “athlete”. My endurance for activity, heart rate, blood pressure have all improved. My large muscles have become stronger which in turn have helped my metabolism. The low impact of exercising in water has helped with consistency of my workouts because I don’t have the constant pain in my back and joints – all of which has helped with fairly significant weight loss.
What’s your favorite thing about Fluid Running and your favorite workout?
My favorite thing is actually the fact that it has been 2 years and I am still going strong. I get fidgety if I miss for too long. It actually helps with my back because it strengthens my core so much so that actual core work doesn’t seem daunting anymore. The results I am getting both medically and physically gives me the desire to keep going.
I have a love/hate relationship with Tidal Wave. It still kicks my butt, but I feel so strong and accomplished every time I do that workout!
What would you say to someone who is hesitant to try Fluid Running?
I tell them you will love it. So easy on your joints. It’s a workout that you can do the rest of your life. And then I say, yes the water is usually cold, but you warm up in minutes and then appreciate the cool water.
Anything else you would like to share with us?
It is just the only workout that I can foresee doing well into my old age. It is like the yoga of cardio.
